Blogger Labels: , Salman Khan recently celebrated his birthday party at his Panvel farmhouse. Close friends were invited at the party.salman-khan-katrina-kaif-199x300 Salman Khan celebrated birthday party in the absence of Katrina Kaif

It is said that Salman Khan did not miss Katrina Kaif who is in London for Christmas. But Salman Khan couldn’t have had it better three beautiful actresses for his attention at his birthday party.

Asin who is teaming up with Salman Khan in ‘London Dreams’ was invited and he got many compliments for her outstanding performace in the film ‘Ghajini’.

A source reveals, “Salman Khan’s family had decided that Salman’s birthday would be low key because of Mumbai terror attacks. Salman Khan’s mother made 15 dishes incorporating biryani and mutton paya and all the guests had a feast.”

This time Salman Khan did not invite all his friends and more than 100 guests turned up. Some stayed back at his sprawling farmhouse while the rest drove back home early yesterday morning. Aamir Khan was also invited and he gave him a painting. It’s a portrait of Salman Khan set against a bluish background painted by Aamir himself.

Salman Khan has started distancing himself from ’Veer’ actress Zarine KTechnorati Tags: , , , han, who looks strikingly similar to Katrina Kaif. The reason is girlfriend Katrina Kaif’s presence on the sets.

The shooting of ’Veer’ at Film City begins by 2 pm and ends promptly at 6 pm, Katrina regularly visits the sets and hangs around till the day’s shoot wraps up. A source from the sets of ’Veer’ said, "Zarine Khan is making every effort to get friendly with Salman. However, Salman Khan is in a different mood ever since the shooting at Film City began. Incidentally, he turned aloof just when Katrina Kaif started visiting him on the sets. Considering that Katrina seldom visits Salman’s sets, this new development has caught the unit of the film off guard."

Commenting on how Salman Khan ignores his Katrina look-alike actress Zarine, we were told, "Often Zarine pulls up a chair to sit near Salman Khan but he does not pay attention. When Zarine tries to talk to Salman, he only replies in monosyllables. This only discourages her further. And if Katrina Kaif is around, Salman Khan only pays attention to Katrina by spending all his free time with her."

Katrina did not deny that she had been on the sets of ’Veer’ and said, "Yes, I did go to the sets of ’Veer’ but only one day. That’s because Anil Sharma, the director of ’Veer’ is my friend." Vijay Galani, producer of ’Veer’ said, "Katrina came to Film City on Tuesday, though she has come to the sets of ’Veer’ a few times earlier too. But Katrina and Zarine get along very well."

So we don’t know which version to believe. Our guess is as good as yours!

Katrina ecstatic on being most Googled.

"I really didn’t expect this," says a surprised but delighted Katrina Kaif on being voted the most searched name on the Internet, which also means she is more popular among the net-savvy youngsters.
"I’m very surprised. I really didn’t expect this. Google is the only thing I know on the Internet. I’m not too Internet-savvy. Who doesn’t want to be recognised and loved? I think it’s really sweet because it means I’m a little more popular with the younger generation. People between 19 and 30 go to the Internet more, I think. And that’s the audience I want to connect with," said Katrina.

This in spite of the fact that Katrina doesn’t think she’s sexy.

"Maybe the way I define sexy is different from the general definitions. Maybe the people who have voted for me think differently from me... thank god for that! The beautiful thing about this world is that there’re so many different opinions."

The actress was earlier judged as the sexiest Asian woman by Eastern Eye, a leading British publication for the South Asian community. She bagged the highest number of votes for the Sexiest Asian Woman title.

"The important thing is to enjoy this moment. I smile about these things. Such momentary honour makes me want achieve a lot better. They help me take the next step."

Katrina has taken over from Aishwarya Rai as the most googled Bollywood girl. Both actresses have a more wholesome image than the term ’sexy’ generally suggests. "I can’t be compared with her... She’s iconic. I like that word... wholesome. I like being wholesome. May be today being attractive has more to do with the relatability factor."

Genelia d’Souza is also in Google’s 2008 India Zeitgeist List. "So maybe too much in-your-face appeal is no longer that much in favour. Maybe finding the balance is important. Otherwise one appeals to only a section of people. Me? I didn’t project myself in any one way. I’ve projected myself the way my projects have allowed me to. I’ve been fortunate to be accepted in spite of not being conventionally sexy."

Katrina, who featured in this year’s biggest hit Singh is Kinng, says she’s ready to play characters that are not straightforward.

"I play more intricate characters in Yash Raj Films’ New York directed by Kabir Khan, Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani and Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti. They are challenging, but I need to go to another level. After watching me in these films no one, not even me, will say I’m just being glamorous," she said.

National Award-winning director Kabir Khan’s film New York starring Katrina Kaif will be Yash Raj Films’ first release in 2009.

The film’s star cast includes John Abraham, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Irrfan Khan apart from Katrina Kaif. This will be Katrina’s first film with the Yash Raj banner.

The film, a contemporary story of three young friends whose lives are turned upside down by certain events that were beyond their control, is set against the larger than life backdrop of the Big Apple.

Director Kabir Khan’s previous venture Kabul Express was critically acclaimed worldwide and he hopes to repeat his success with New York.

The film’s first look is set to be revealed along with the Dec 12 release of Yash Raj’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.

Katrina Kaif – Asia’s Sexiest Woman

Katrina Kaif has been voted Asia’s sexiest woman by the popular British weekly, Eastern Eye. In second place was last year’s winner Bipasha Basu and in third place Priyanka Chopra. Katrina can currently be seen alongside Salman Khan in Yuvraaj. Editor Hermant Verma says, "Katrina Kaif’s natural beauty and easy charm has enabled her stock to rise in Bollywood. This has resulted in a number of lucrative offers, and appearances in films that proved to be box-office hits."

However, Katrina may not be at the top much longer if someone doesn’t drag Ranbir Kapoor away from her. Her co-star in Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani bopped her in the nose during filming on Monday night. “An elaborate set was created at Madh Island and it was a chase sequence where Ranbir and Katrina were supposed to be running away from some goons,” said a crew member, “All was fine till the point where Ranbir needed to suddenly turn around. He did that but in the bargain hit Katrina’s nose with his hand and the delicate actress went tumbling to the ground. She was in great pain but realised that it was unintentional, so she didn’t complain.”

Meanwhile Katrina’s show that was planned for the Marriott Hotel, for which she was going to be paid a whopping one crore for one night’s work, has been cancelled in response to the Mumbai attack. "In the wake of the recent events, as a mark of solidarity and support, we have decided to call off the New Year’s celebrations at the Marriott," she explained and confirming said, “Keeping in mind the sentiments of the city and the nation we have cancelled the show."

I’ve proved all my critics wrong: Katrina Kaif

New Delhi (IANS): Five years into Bollywood, Britain-born actress Katrina Kaif is proud that she could prove wrong all those people who wrote her off during her initial days in the industry. She is one of the few actresses who can boast of giving six hits in a row.

"When I started, people were not only writing me off for my strong British accent, there were many others who tried to prevent me from making it till here," Katrina told IANS in an interview here.

"They didn’t do so in an aggressive or excessive manner, but they used to say things like ’I don’t know...’ and ’I’m not sure...’ that would suggest a not-so-positive approach towards me. But I proved myself ultimately.

"I always try and push myself to exceed expectations. I use this ideology in a positive way," she explained.

Katrina was emphatic when she spoke of her belief in destiny.

"The great thing about life is that you never know what can happen and there’s no limitation to it. Someone can tell you that you can never be this and never be that. It’s not true. Anyone can be what he wants to be and destiny plays a major part in it. God has of course been very kind to me.

"I believe that everyone should try and live their dreams, follow them and they might just come true someday," Katrina said.

From her disastrous debut with "Boom" in 2003 to five hits in a row in 2007, the 24-year-old has not only worked hard on her acting skills, she has also shown a marked improvement in her Hindi dialogue delivery.

Commenting on her improved accent, Katrina - born of a Kashmiri father and a British mother - said: "Interacting with various people on and off the sets and doing some eight Hindi movies, dealing with Hindi scripts, practising dialogue delivery ... I think that in itself has taught me and helped me improve my accent."

Katrina is in the news nowadays for having delivered one box office dud "Yuvvraaj" after delivering six back-to-back hits including "Namastey London", "Apne", "Partner’, "Welcome", "Race" and "Singh Is Kinng".

After so many hits, she was tagged as a lucky mascot for producers by trade pundits, but the actress is not pleased with the "lucky" label.

"’Lucky mascot’ doesn’t make any sense. It is such an illogical statement. A successful film is a combination of a good director, good music, intelligent script, good timing, destiny, everybody’s efforts and audience’s reaction. There isn’t a reason or an explanation that you can tag a person as lucky," she remarked.

In her career, Katrina has predominantly dabbled in comedies, but she has lately "felt the need to progress a bit" and try her hand at different things.

"If you see Akshay Kumar, he was an action hero and then he went to comedy and found out his real calling. It took him to new heights of superstardom. I think it is important to take risks and figure out what really suits you.

"Every actor has a strength like Aamir does romance and Akshay does comedy, but I don’t know my strength yet.

"If I get a contrast role in one film like where one get-up has me play a simple, shy and homely girl, the other has me as a brass and loud girl, I would definitely do that," she said in an excited tone.

As of now, Katrina has a number of films in her kitty.

She is doing two films with Ranbir Kapoor including "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" by Rajkumar Santoshi. She is also working with Prakash Jha on his multi-starrer "Rajniti".

These apart, she has one comedy film in hand and a two-film deal each with UTV and TV 18 respectively.

Anupama Chopra, Consulting Editor, Films, NDTV

At one point in Yuvvraaj, one character tells another: Tum samajhdar ho, intelligent ho, clever ho. A few reels later, one brother tells another: No papa, no father, no pita, no daddy.

Characters keep repeating themselves and if you still don’t get the point of this predictable film about three estranged brothers, writer-producer- director Subhash Ghai gives us a voice-over that spells out the obvious and a character who hands us a motto at the end: Independent you live, united you stand. It’s not very new or deep or engaging.

Yuvvraaj is a loose rip-off of Barry Levinson’s 1988 hit Rainman, which won four Oscars including best actor and best Picture.

Here too, a father dies leaving a majority of his fortune to his autistic son, Gyanesh, played by Anil Kapoor. Of course this is autism Bollywood style.

So we see Gyanesh making music with children and bouncing balls in the living room. People call him bhola and someone declares: uski dimagi halat kharab hai. His brother Deven, played by Salman Khan, who has been estranged from the family for 12 years, returns to claim his share of dad’s Rs 15,000 crores.

The original touch here is that there is also a third brother Danny, played by Zayed Khan, a spoilt rich brat, who is mostly shown flying planes, gambling and lolling in bed with a floozy, who memorably dumps him for, and the exact dialogue is: the second richest man in London.

At first, both Deven and Danny are only looking to somehow extract money from their bhola brother but as the three spend time together, they bond and discover the importance of the united family.

Subhash Ghai, who created some memorable blockbusters through the 1980s and early 90s, returns to his favoured movie mode: 70 mm melodrama with stars, picturesque foreign locations and melodious music.

He brings passion and ambition but unfortunately he is let down by his own script. The writing is archaic and simplistic with unintentionally funny dialogue.

The lead characters have little flesh on them but the minor ones are positively cartoonish. There is a wicked mamaji and my personal favorite, a sultry sister-in-law who speaks only in shudh Hindi but wears plunging necklines and makes moves on Deven.

The performances match the writing. Salman, essentially plays himself, an unpredictable lover who smashes a guitar when he is in a rage but he is also good- hearted.

Changing hairstyles in every scene, Salman scrapes through the romance and comedy but his tears have no conviction. Anil goes back to his simpleton act from Eeshwar.

Poor Zayed is saddled with the most underwritten part. He’s also given a scene in which he cries in close-up. This is of course meant to be moving but in fact he looks like he has severe indigestion. There’s also Boman Irani hamming it in a bad wig, Mithun Chakarborty trying not to ham it in a bad wig and Anjan Srivastav, who for reasons never explained, has one blue eye.

’De Dhana Dhan’ starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif set to roll

Priyadarshan’s ’De Dhana Dhan,’ starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Suneil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, will roll at Mehboob studios in Mumbai from December 1.

November 24, 2008, (Sawf News) - Priyadarshan’s De Dhana Dhan, starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Suneil Shetty and Paresh Rawal, will roll at Mehboob studios in Mumbai from December 1.

A source in the production unit tells Sawf News that filming of the comedy caper will start with a song sequence featuring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif with a group of dancers. The films’ music is scored by Pritam, lyrics have been penned by Samir and dance moves choreographed by Prasanna.

The film, whose screenplay has been penned by Priyadarshan, brings the Hera Pheri team of Akshay, Suniel and Paresh together after 8 years.

The film also marks the fourth outing together of Akshay and Priyadarshan since 2005, following Garam Masala (2005), Bhagam Bhag (2006) and Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007).

Katrina was picked to play lead after a lot of other actresses auditioned, partly because Akshay considers her his lucky mascot.

Major part of the film will be shot in Singapore where Priyadarshan started a sound recording studio earlier this year.

Akshay recently returned to India after spending considerable time out of the country, shooting for Nadiadwala’s Kambakht Ishq and Rohan Sippy’s Chandni Chowk To China.

John-Katrina make their way into Shahrukh’s film

John Abraham and Katrina Kaif

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, which hits the theatres this Friday, happens to be one of the most anticipated movies of 2008.

Yash Raj Films is apparently planning to show the first look trailer of New York with the Shahrukh’s biggie. This movie happens to be another one of their anticipated movies that stars John Abraham and Katrina Kaif.

New York is set in the Big Apple and is a story about friendships and romance. It’s the story of three friends who are living in peace and harmony but known to them lurks a danger that will threaten the very essence of their friendship.

Sounds interesting! We’ll have to wait and watch to see whether it interests us so much later too!
